Rochester, MinnesotaThe Chateau Theatre is a 14-cinema multiplex designed with a medieval castle theme, in which lighting plays a major part in creating the fanciful theme. The lobby features a constellation of twinkling night sky reflected on the ceiling plan. Three different fiber-optic end crystals create varying brightness levels representing smaller and larger stars. A twinkle wheel further adds sparkle and interest. Downlights, required for general illumination, is trimmed in pewter to blend with the dark blue ceiling. Backlighting illuminating the faux facades and towers uses compact fluorescent wallwash luminaires and strip lights for longevity and low-cost maintenance. Incandescent and HID track lighting highlights promotional materials, while high-contrast lighting between bright and dark areas draws attention to the glowing concession area. The result is an energy-efficient, high-impact space for a memorable movie-going experience.
