California State University-Los Angeles, Bookstore and Dining Services Building
Los Angeles, CaliforniaThe new Bookstore and Dining Services Building is located on the site of the former UAS Cafeteria and Dining Hall in the heart of the campus. It is three stories with a central promenade.
The primary functions include a Barnes and Noble bookstore, food court, conference center for 600 people, language labs, classrooms, offices, kitchen and university club.
The design concept responds to a bend in the circulation path with a gentle curve connecting the north and south areas of the campus. The bookstore will be conveniently located at grade in a two story portion of the curved element. A promenade or covered walkway passes through the center of the building encouraging students to enter from both directions. Outdoor dining and covered seating extend the dining functions into the campus.
This project was completed in 2003, in association with Tate Snyder Kimsey.
