East Los Angeles College, Math and Science Building

Monterey Park, California

The Math and Science complex at East Los Angeles College creates an architectural focus to the academic core of this urban campus of single-story stucco and wood-frame buildings. The complex consists of one new building and two renovated buildings around a central plaza. The new structure is planned to attain LEED Silver certification, which will bring long-term cost-saving benefits to the college. The 118,000-square-foot complex consists of Math/ Chemistry/ Life Science Building new construction; Physics Building renovation; and Earth Sciences Building renovation. Reflecting the existing campus architecture while adding new design elements, the new construction breaks into two masses to minimize the large scale. The two renovated buildings will follow in a second phase.

Estimated completion is 2010.

LEED Registered; LEED Silver Target.
