East Texas Medical Center Hospital Expansion/Renovation
Tyler, TexasETMC Tyler is the only Level One Trauma Center in Texas east of Dallas. Given that 40 percent of the hospital's 50,000 patients each year come in through the Emergency Department (ED), HGA designed the ED to be the "hood ornament" of the hospital. Unlike many EDs, ETMC Tyler's ED is showcased at the front of the building, not tucked away in the back. In addition to expanding the ED, HGA designed a new urgent care facility (Fast Track) directly across a covered driveway from the ED. Patients drive up between the Fast Track and ED and are triaged in their cars. Hospital staff determine which level of care patients need and direct them either to Fast Track or the ED, thus saving time, ensuring proper care and making the most efficient use of staff.
