University of Northern Iowa, Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center

Cedar Falls, Iowa

The Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center is unique in its flexible design and special attention paid to acoustics. The facility meets a wide range of staging, seating and acoustic requirements to house the UNI School of Music, The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra and to attract national touring companies for music, dance and theater. related quote
"Their initial approach put everyone at ease, encouraging us to express our goals and priorities for the facility. It was apparent they were not interested in manipulating the group - just laying out the parameters of the decisions needed to be made. Their ability to listen, to absorb what was being said, made all the difference."

- Dr. Raymond Tymas-Jones
Director - The School of Music

The 115,000 square foot facility offers classrooms, rehearsal studios, an administrative wing and three performances venues. A three-tiered, 1,600 seat auditorium with a sophisticated, state-of-the-art stage house is the largest of the halls. Designed to permit additional flexibility for smaller audiences, this theater can offer an intimate feel with only a few hundred in attendance. A 300-seat recital hall can also be used for theatrical productions and rehearsal of large ensembles. Finally, a 125-seat cathedral-like choir space with a baroque-style, hand-made "tracker" organ includes flexible features to allow various configurations.
