The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society National Center for Long Term Care
Sioux Falls, South DakotaIn 1994, the Good Samaritan Society commissioned HGA to develop a campus masterplan for The National Center for Long-term Care. This campus is envisioned to become one of the most progressive healthcare facilities in the nation ... a state-of-the-art facility comprised of several buildings where research, education and high quality care-giving can occur together on one campus.
The campus will include the following facilities:
One of the most progressive features of the masterplan is the layout of the residential/healthcare district. The skilled nursing facility is designed to appear as a series of townhomes with front porches on a "village green" where residents can feel and be part of the larger community.
An extremely important aspect of the masterplan is the idea that year-long residents of the campus feel as though they have moved not to a typical, isolated nursing home, but rather to a "village" with all of the amenities, social opportunities and qualities of a small town.
The Faith and Life Building is envisioned as a stunningly beautiful edifice centrally located and residing partially in the water of the central reflecting pond. It serves as the symbolic and spiritual heart of the campus. Throughout the campus there will be a variety of contemplative outdoor spaces (i.e., prayer gardens, strolling gardens, courtyards, and other special places to enjoy life).
