Innovis Health Ambulatory Care Center

Fargo, North Dakota

Physicians at Dakota Clinic in Fargo, North Dakota, were limited to providing outpatient services because they had no inpatient facilities of their own. In a bold yet profitable move, Dakota Clinic enlisted HGA's help to design a facility that combined 100,000 square feet of outpatient clinic space with a 110-bed capacity specialty inpatient facility, Innovis Health. Open since 2000, Innovis Health is now located on a 17-acre site at a major intersection in an area of rapid commercial growth in south Fargo. A striking seven-story atrium links all levels of the outpatient and inpatient wings and provides a welcoming central entrance for both. Both wings make use of horizontal adjacencies of related specialties and shared diagnostics to maximize efficiency and quality of care. The clinics are arranged in a front-stage/back-stage configuration, with waiting areas along the all-glass north face of the building, and internal exam rooms and staff circulation. Waiting patients enjoy panoramic views and natural light. HGA designed the Clinic's wing to be vertically expandable by two floors, which allows for growth without sacrificing natural light or marring the view.
