Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport LRT Station and Tunnel

Minneapolis, Minnesota

The first leg of the Twin Cities' Light Rail Transit (LRT) system runs from downtown Minneapolis, beneath the airport, and terminates at the Mall of America. LRT stations at the airport are located underground at the main Lindbergh Terminal, and at grade at the new Humphrey Terminal. The LRT route runs under two major runways and the eastern end of the main terminal via a bored tunnel. The station at the Lindbergh Terminal is located beneath the eastern side of the parking ramp expansion and is accessible to the automated people mover, transit center, rental auto center, satellite airline ticketing facility, and the Concourse Connector. The station extends the main terminal's architecture and materials. A sculptural system of curvilinear ceiling panels evokes images of flight and movement. The project was completed in 2004.
