The pre-design and planning efforts for this 65,240 SF facility involved extensive community involvement, incorporating diverse ideas regarding qualities and components that would make this project successful. Elements include:

  • A double full court/4 youth court gymnasium

  • A walking and running track

  • 2 handball courts

  • Sizable aquatic space with a lap/lesson pool, zero depth wading entry pool with play elements, a slide/plunge area, and spa

  • Youth club recreation space

  • Men's and women's locker rooms, plus six family/handicapped accessible locker room

  • A serving kitchen with divisible banquet space

  • Meeting rooms

  • A fitness area

  • Childcare facilities

  • A lounge/snack bar area to serve as a community-wide meeting space in the heart of the facility.
Serving children and young families is the core goal of this new facility. Considerable historical and cultural elements are expressed in serving all community members. The accommodation for arts and historical displays are prominent within the lobby space and throughout the facility. In creating a program of this facility, the team discovered that the spirit of this facility is much more than just a place for meeting and recreation. Through its location, attention to elements of the past, present and future and synergy of opportunities focusing on families and all members of the community, this facility creates a new benchmark in the development of the city of Marshall.
