Mayo Health System, Owatonna Clinic
Owatonna, MinnesotaThis new, 60,000-square-foot, two-story clinic facility is an integral part of an overall medical campus on a 60-acre site in Owatonna. The Owatonna Clinic is home to a multi-specialty clinic, which provides medical services including Dermatology, Ophthalmology (including laser capabilities), Dialysis, Chemotherapy, Lab, Imaging, Internal Medical, Family Practice, Cardiology, Oncology and Nuclear Medicine. HGA designed the building to accommodate up to five stories of future expansion. Designers worked closely with the construction manager throughout the design process, which enabled Mayo to identify the best value for construction dollars.
Perched on the crest of a hill, the Clinic, with its two-story copper entry, immediately grabs the attention of passersby. HGA designed the main entry to open to the southeast to protect it from harsh winter winds and orient the clinic toward Owatonna. Designers also incorporated an open staircase in the clinic's central space, providing a visual connection between the floors, enhancing the flexibility of the space and making wayfinding easy for patients and visitors.
