Mayo Clinic, College of Medicine Multidisciplinary Simulation Center
Rochester, MinnesotaBy combining flexibility with the latest technology, HGA's forward-thinking design is helping healthcare educators develop innovative ways to train medical students in highly technical procedures. The 10,000 SF Multidisciplinary Simulation Center for the College of Medicine at Mayo Clinic, for instance, is a state-of-the-art medical-training facility that blends healthcare technology with a theatrical flair. HGA's healthcare architects and theater specialists collaboratively created a teaching environment where students master life-saving skills during simulated events using electronically programmed manikins. A wood-paneled lobby leads to six flexibly designed patient rooms and four fully equipped simulations rooms that accurately portray the medical drama of operating rooms, emergency rooms, intensive-care units, and endovascular labs. A networked audiovisual system enables students to review their recorded procedures as they prepare to work on actual patients.
