Medical College of Wisconsin/ Children's Research Institute, Biomedical Research Building

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is one of the largest medical schools in the country and is an emerging leader in biomedical research. The $91.2 million project integrates the new Biomedical Research Building, its 180,000+ SF of state-of-the-art research laboratory space and 120,000 SF barrier vivarium, with existing facilities. This project doubles the size of each program component. The planning and design emphasis was on a cost-effective solution that met the facility's goals:

  • Maximize the amount of laboratory space

    • Create functional, flexible laboratory space on multiple levels that align with existing laboratories in adjacent buildings

      • Integrate with existing facilities

        • Design a state-of-the-art Barrier Vivarium

          • Design engineering systems to meet all technical demands and adapt easily to the campus plan
