Medtronic World Headquarters Neurological Division Facility
Fridley, MinnesotaThe World Headquarters for Medtronic is located in Fridley, Minnesota. Designed as a campus, it is low in scale and pedestrian friendly as a response to Medtronic's business practices. This campus-based solution to planning and land use promotes interaction among researchers and staff. It also provides a system for organizing the business practices that will be introduced into the Headquarters campus fabric over time as the corporation's needs change and grow. One of the first major elements to be constructed on the Campus was the headquarters for the Neurological Division within Medtronic. This 138,000 SF building houses office, lab and support space for over 525 people. The building is planned according the campus wide space planning principles of keeping the full height partitions away from the glass in order to improve the quality of daylight for the highest number of people. The building is organized along a sweeping "street" that collects the shared functions of galley, copy, mail and conferencing which results in clusters of activity to promote employee interaction. The design solution for the Neurological Building at Medtronic also responds to the Campus Master Plan helping define a shared outdoor courtyard by means of the link that connects back to the main facility.
