Mercy Medical Center Lundy Pavilion

Cedar Rapids, Iowa

To maintain the high quality of service at Mercy Medical Center-known since the early 1900s as the "Mercy Touch"-the MercyCare Service Corporation commissioned HGA to produce a master plan that would provide for growth and be consistent with their long-term vision. The plan addresses several key issues, including MercyCare patients' perceptions of the site, the growth of outpatient diagnostics and expansion of programs (i.e., outpatient surgery and the Women's Center).
HGA put the master plan into action by designing the J. Edward Lundy Pavilion, expanding the Medical Center by 25 percent (150,000 square feet) and renovating 46,000 square feet of existing space. With its new 44,170-square-foot facility on Level 2, the Surgery Center grew by some 40 percent. The center also enhanced patient privacy and staff efficiency by consolidating inpatient and outpatient operations on a single level. The 15 state-of-the-art operating rooms were designed with the extra space and higher ceiling heights required for today's larger and more advanced lighting and technology.

related quote
"Mercy is very happy with HGA's team. They are very creative, professional, and knowledgeable. I really believe the best project work comes when everyone on the team is comfortable and confident enough to offer and debate options in a non-defensive way. We have excellent discussions and some good laughs."
