Cedar Rapids, IowaTo maintain the high quality of service at Mercy Medical Center-known since the early 1900s as the "Mercy Touch"-the MercyCare Service Corporation commissioned HGA to produce a master plan that would provide for growth and be consistent with their long-term vision. The plan addresses several key issues, including MercyCare patients' perceptions of the site, the growth of outpatient diagnostics and expansion of programs (i.e., outpatient surgery and the Women's Center). - Marc Gullickson
HGA put the master plan into action by designing the J. Edward Lundy Pavilion, expanding the Medical Center by 25 percent (150,000 square feet) and renovating 46,000 square feet of existing space. With its new 11,000-square-foot space on Level 1, the Women's Center nearly quadrupled in size. Knowing that women tend to be the healthcare decision makers in the family, Mercy opened Eastern Iowa's first women's center in 1987, and the pavilion project reasserted that leadership. The center offers new and expanded high-tech clinical services, counseling and a new Internet-equipped women's resource library-all in a comfortable, spa-like environment.
