Mercy Medical Center Heart Hospital

Sioux City, Iowa

From one simple hospital established by the Sisters of Mercy in Sioux City to today's statewide network of seven world-class medical centers, Mercy is the name Iowans have trusted since 1890. In 2005, Mercy built on that legacy by adding a $20.7 million, state-of-the-art cardiac care facility to the Mercy Medical Center campus in Sioux City. Mercy Heart Hospital is the first step in a master plan that will ultimately transform and modernize the medical center's entire campus.
The Heart Hospital comprises about 66,500 gross square feet housing a full spectrum of cardiovascular services. HGA designed the Heart Hospital with the capacity to perform up to 4,000 cardiac catheterizations per year. The clinic can accommodate up to 20,000 annual patient visits. The steep river bluff on which the Heart Hospital sits inspired several distinctive design elements, including floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the Missouri River and other local landmarks, which help to orient visitors within the building.
