Meriter Hospital Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
Madison, WisconsinMeriter Hospital called on HGA to help them relocate the 18-bed Child and Adolescent Psychiatric program to a new building. This 20,000-gross-square-foot hospital is one of only three child and adolescent psychiatric treatment centers in Wisconsin and the only freestanding hospital of its kind in the state. The facility was built on a 65-acre parcel on the outskirts of Madison. Low-pitched roofs, contrasting with the taller gymnasium element, anchor the building to its surroundings. Natural colored exterior materials reinforce the prairie architecture. A modified cruciform shape enables identification of the four distinct program elements: an Administrative wing, an Education wing, a seven-bed Child Inpatient wing and an 11-bed Adolescent Inpatient wing. The central Nurse Station/Communication Center commands a view of all areas and serves to control access to the Child and Adolescent Seclusion Suites.
