Milwaukee County Zoo Karen Peck Katz Conservation Education Center
Milwaukee, WisconsinThe 30,000 SF Conservation Education Center for the Zoological Society of Milwaukee County is sited at the edge of the zoo grounds. The building is designed with respect to the traditional design of Milwaukee County Zoo facilities, with a modern sensibility and sensitivity to sustainable design. The 1-1/2 story building contains a double-height entrance/gathering room, eight classrooms, including one lab, and administrative and teacher offices. Classrooms for the younger students occupy the ground floor with older students and a teacher office suite on the second floor. The gathering space is a light and transparent place for student registration and for gathering prior to the start of class. It also offers a break in the dense edge of the zoo where passersby can see through to the activities of the zoo.
