Minnesota State University, Trafton Science Center Addition

Mankato, Minnesota

HGA has a long history with the design of science facilities for Minnesota State University, Mankato. In 2002, HGA, with the laboratory consultant RFD, completed a Predesign for a 70,000 SF chemistry addition to the existing Trafton Science Center. The project scope also includes 35,000 SF of renovation for biology, electrical engineering and classroom spaces. HGA also designed a 55,000 SF addition to the existing Trafton Science Center to accommodate the departments of Mechanical and Civil Engineering, Physics and Electrical Engineering as the first phase of a new academic quadrangle at the eastern entry to the University campus. Designed as a functional and aesthetic extension of the existing architecture, this facility defines the northern edge for the quadrangle. The new addition also expresses the University's commitment to educational excellence in the field of high technology, featuring a telecommunications lab with a roof top antenna array, a wind tunnel lab, a vibration testing lab, mechanical engineering labs and a future clean room. Other spaces include two large lecture halls and faculty offices.
