Minnesota Zoological Garden Weesner Family Amphitheater

The award-winning Weesner Family Amphitheater, a combination of soaring tensile canopies and nestled seating, evokes an ancient amphitheater and inspires a sense of "bonding with the living earth" for visitors to the Minnesota Zoological Garden's Birds of Prey show. Perched on the edge of the Zoo's largest lake, the limestone amphitheater sweeps along the brow of a hillside oak knoll. The amphitheater is punctuated by six canopy structures whose light tensile strength suggests birds in flight. Theatre seating for 1,500 which overlooks a managed wetland and pond is constructed of redwood from renewable forests.
