Church of The Open Door
Maple Grove, MinnesotaChurch of the Open Door relocated to Maple Grove, a suburb of Minneapolis, after renting a high school facility for many years. Their new home consists of a Masterplan of 220,000 SF and 1500 parking spaces.
A first phase of 116,000 SF has a worship space designed to seat 3000, with 1400 seats on the main floor and 400 seats in the balcony occupied in the first phase. Until the additional 1200 seats are needed, balcony space will serve as the interim church office space and under balcony space will be adult meeting rooms.
The design calls for a three level structure nestled into the center of the site, oriented towards interstate 94 viewed across wetlands and flanked by woodland. The simple rectangular architecture reflects Open Door's "come as you are" philosophy. A welcoming "front porch" orients towards the access drive from the neighborhood.
