Orange City Area Health System
Orange City, IowaLocated in rural northwest Iowa, Orange City Hospital and Clinic draws inspiration from its pastoral setting. The 125,000-square-foot, two-level replacement facility on a 37-acre site houses an integrated hospital and clinic space that includes acute care functions and outpatient clinic functions. Interior architecture alludes to the rural setting with a curving, cultured-stone wall, wooden ceilings, metal paneling and glass expanses. Public spaces cluster around perimeter windows as the central corridor frames views of the landscape. In addition, the public concourse doubles as a light axis through the building core as interior spaces gain borrowed light from clerestory windows. Clear wayfinding follows the main entry lobby along the single public concourse. A centrally located chapel, reflecting the community's Dutch heritage, includes a spiraling plaster wall and skylight to create a powerful yet inclusive spiritual statement.
