The Pantages Theatre
Minneapolis, MinnesotaThe Pantages Theater was a well-known vaudevillian theatre that fall into disuse until a 2001 renovation revitalized its historic character. The marquee and flag were central to the renovation. The lighting design reflects the historic character while introducing new lighting technology to dramatic effect. The designers faithfully reconstructed the Pantages flag from historic photographs, then updated it with low-maintenance, energy-efficient LED lamps. The LED lamps saved estimated 33,000 kilowatt hours per year. The 1,700 LED lamps with 50,000 hour lamp life reduced maintenance tremendously. The marquee also incorporates LED technology to create a dramatic color-changing glow.
