Sacramento County Primary Care Clinic

Sacramento, California

The Sacramento County Primary Care Clinic is a county-operated facility that serves the healthcare needs of increasingly diverse patient groups. The Clinic accommodates outpatient medical examinations and urgent care visits by patients without the means to pay in full. Sited at the edge of the UC Davis Medical Campus, HGA designed the two-story, 100,000-square-foot facility to cater to the healthcare needs of the area's migrant workers and recent immigrants. The project includes a primary care clinic, a chest clinic for tuberculosis patients, chronic disease and refugee clinics, a public health lab, and a pharmacy. A central atrium brings natural light to departments and visitor service areas. The exterior conveys a high tech, yet welcoming image. Designers employed full-height exterior screens to mask rooftop air handling units, which are vital for HEPA filtering and multiple air changes in chest clinic patient areas.
