The Solanus Casey Center, The Providence of Saint Joseph of The Capuchin Order
Detroit, MichiganHGA Religious and Museum specialists worked with Father Richard Vosko on a pilgrimage center and museum dedicated to the life and work of Father Solanus Casey, Capuchin, a candidate for beatification. Located near downtown Detroit, Michigan on the grounds of the St. Bonaventure Monastery, the Center seeks to receive, educate, and inspire the more then 40,000 visitors a year to the tomb of Brother Casey. The arrangement of the structure reflects the pilgrimage journey. From a visitor's drop-off area, processional paths lead through a sheep gate to a labyrinth courtyard. The pilgrimage path continues past orientation areas through the museum and narrows to a ceremonial door. Beyond this door, a circle of saints surrounds the tomb of Brother Casey who leads the pilgrim from education through meditation, and reconciliation. Our charge has been to develop the architecture to embrace the pilgrimage and invite transformation.
