Sutter Health Prototype Hospital

As part of a "co-competition" between three nationally recognized healthcare design firms, HGA produced a prototype hospital, complete with operational models and projected staffing plan. Utilizing the Toyota product development process and a set-based design methodology, the prototype is a kit of parts that will be adapted as Sutter Health implements a system wide strategy to develop eight new replacement hospitals over the next several years.
By leveraging technology to minimize staff movement and create transparency of information, outsourcing non-value added services and delivering those services to the point of use, and by standardizing building elements to discrete components we have achieved the following metrics:

• 40% reduction in Base line FTE's per adjusted discharge


• 50% decrease from baseline aggregated procedure time


• 30% reduction from baseline area per adjusted patient discharge


• 50% reduction in time to build


• 25% decrease in natural resource consumption
