Wisconsin Lutheran College, Student Residence Halls
Wauwatosa, WisconsinHGA designed two new 125-student residence halls for the Wisconsin Lutheran College. Based on the "house" concept, students live in groups of 24 plus one upperclassman serving as a resident advisor. Each "house""has its own separate and secure entry, and includes a quiet study area and a live/learn space for programmed activities. All houses within the building share a common entry courtyard, along with a t.v. lounge, laundry facilities and a seminar room. A shared resident advisor office space, along with a building manager's apartment, is also provided in each building. The new buildings were constructed on the southernmost edge of the campus, in an area currently occupied by parking lots. Their location in front of the original campus administration building, built in 1923, forms a new campus quadrangle. Parking was moved underground, with two levels under each dormitory. The building materials closely follow Wisconsin Lutheran's trademark palette, using red brick with ornamental patterning, copper trim and tiled roofs.
