HGA Vice President Named Chair of One of the American Institute of Architects' National Committees
San Francisco, CA - Dave Alpert, AIA, LEEDŽ AP, vice president of HGA Architects and Engineers, has been named 2008 national chair of the American Institute of Architects' (AIA) Committee for Corporate Architects and Facilities Management Knowledge Community Advisory Group. In this capacity, Alpert will work to facilitate the exchange of knowledge between AIA members working for corporations and other client organizations.
The Advisory Group stages outreach events at local AIA chapters around the country, including events this year in Denver, Dallas, Boston and Chicago. The group also coordinates with the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA) on educational programs at the AIA National Convention in May, and at IFMA's World Workplace 2008 Conference %26 Expo in October. Additional professional activities include a scholarship program for architecture students and an e-newsletter.
As the Advisory Group chair, Alpert will participate in multiple AIA workshops, including organizing and moderating a panel discussion/presentation at the national AIA convention in May. "Greening Where We Work," will feature a case study and tour of Genzyme Headquarters, a LEEDŽ Platinum project in Cambridge, MA. Alpert will lead the panel discussion regarding sustainable design as a corporate strategy. Panelists are a group of corporate owner representatives from Genzyme, Kaiser Permanente and Bank of America.
Alpert serves as vice president, principal and office director for HGA's San Francisco office, leading its design work in the healthcare, higher education, corporate, and science and technology sectors. He has spoken widely and led panel discussions on facility design, planning and sustainable design at conferences for national and international organizations, including the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), International Facility Management Association (IFMA) and American Society for Healthcare Engineers (ASHE).
