HGA Hires Senior Director of Architecture
Los Angeles, CA - HGA Architects and Engineers (HGA) has hired Bung Ko as a senior designer of architecture in its Los Angeles office. Ko will work within a dynamic team environment to enhance the firm's design work in higher education and healthcare.
"Bung has a strong architectural design background working on a range of building types," said Stan Chiu, AIA, vice president and design principal in the firm's Los Angeles office. "His design leadership experience in a client-focused environment will prove a valuable fit with HGA. We're pleased to have him on our team."
Ko has more than 15 years of design experience with architecture firms in California and Korea. Before joining HGA, Ko was principal of his own firm, Bung Ko Architects in Los Angeles since 2004, where he focused on residential, retail and restaurant design. Among his projects were the Windsor West Condominiums in Los Angeles and La Mill Cafe in Silver Lake, Calif.
Prior to directing his own practice, Ko was a senior designer with Yazdani Studio at Cannon Design in Los Angeles for eight years. He worked on a number of large-scale buildings for civic and higher education clients, including Texas Christian University Recreational Center in Fort Worth, Texas, which won an award for exemplary sports and leisure facilities through IOC/LAKS, and the Santa Monica Public Safety Building, which won a sustainable design award through the Los Angeles Business Council.
Ko graduated with a master's degree in architecture from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University in 1993. He completed a bachelor's degree in studio arts from Wesleyan University in 1989, which included finishing his third year studio in the College of Environmental Design at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1988. Ko was an adjunct instructor in the School of Architecture at the University of Southern California in 2007.
Ko is a licensed architect in the State of California.
