HGA to Perform Feasibility Study for CSU San Marcos' New Student Union

Los Angeles, CA - HGA Architects and Engineers (HGA) has been selected to conduct a feasibility study for a student union building at California State University (CSU) San Marcos. As part of this study, HGA will analyze the achievability of constructing the building within a suitable budget, design facility concepts, program building functions and estimate the project costs. To meet the needs of the campus, the student union concept under consideration would include a food court, indoor and outdoor dining areas, conference and meeting rooms, student services offices, a bookstore, and other various operational spaces. The facility would potentially become the main spot for socialization and interaction on the 304-acre campus, which opened in 1992. As the last of three designated campus landmark buildings, the project will occupy a centralized sloping site near the roundabout at the end of Campus Way, the main entrance at the top of an incline, where the building is positioned to be a focal point within the campus. HGA will weigh the constructability of the student union, as well as create a design concept that will serve as a beacon for visitors. The feasibility study is scheduled for completion this month. HGA's team includes Michael F. Ross, FAIA, principal-in-charge; Stan Chiu, AIA, LEEDŽ AP, project designer; James Matson, AIA, project manager; Eric Chang, LEEDŽ AP, project coordinator; Satoshi Teshima, LEEDŽ AP, Sing Sing Lee, LEEDŽ AP, and Nate Chiappa, designers. Other consultants include Arup, structural engineer; P2S Engineering, mechanical, electrical and plumbing; PENCO Engineering, civil engineer; Webb Design, food service consultant; Davis Langdon, cost estimator; and Brailsford %26 Dunlavey, financial and market analysis consultant.
