HGA Architects and Engineers Receives Eight Lighting Design Awards

Minneapolis, MN - The Minneapolis and Milwaukee offices of HGA Architects and Engineers received eight 2006 International Illumination Design Awards from the Illumination Engineering Society of North America (IESNA). The International Illumination Design Awards program of the IESNA provides a unique opportunity for public recognition of professionalism, ingenuity, and originality in lighting design based upon the individual merit of each entry judged against specific criteria. Judges are selected from a broad professional spectrum that represents knowledge of lighting and design excellence. HGA received awards for the following projects: Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport Light Rail Transit Station received a Guth Award for Interior Lighting Design at the Sectional Level. Lighting software was used to explore lighting options and possibilities for how architectural forms and materials could influence the station's overall perception. Overall, the lighting design enhances the energetic quality of the station, making it attractive to visitors, and allowing for their safe travel. Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota received a Waterbury Award for Outdoor Lighting Design at the Sectional Level. The first new construction at the complex since the addition of the education wing represents a young, progressive, growing congregation that is looking forward. The lighting concept is a "beacon for new development," achieved by painting interior surfaces with light and creating a lantern effect. The lighting design dramatized the architecture to its greatest capacity. HGA Great Lakes Office in Milwaukee, Wisconsin received an Energy and Environmental Design Award at the Sectional and Regional Levels. While achieving LEED Silver certification, embracing architectural integration, and maximizing visual comfort, the project met all financial and energy budgets by using the most efficient light sources and luminaries, placing light only where needed and maximizing daylight use. This project balances architectural impact and energy efficiency to deliver the best of both worlds. East Texas Medical Center (ETMC) Rusk Outpatient Facility received a Waterbury Award for Outdoor Lighting Design at the Sectional and Regional Levels. East Texas Medical Center's new outpatient facility in Rusk, Texas is a beacon for quality healthcare in its rural community. Lighting design takes this healthcare facility beyond ordinary and elevates it to a landmark in the community. East Texas Medical Center (ETMC) Tyler ER Addition received a Waterbury Award for Outdoor Lighting Design at the Sectional and Regional Levels. The lighting design highlights not only the physical attributes of this Tyler, Texas facility, but also reflects ETMC's long-standing reputation as a center for exceptional healthcare service. The Guth and Waterbury awards recognize outstanding interior and exterior lighting design. The Energy and Environmental Design Award recognizes quality lighting installations in commercial and industrial buildings that incorporate advanced energy-saving strategies and environmentally responsible solutions into the overall design. Sectional Awards acknowledge commendable achievement in lighting design at the local level. Regional Awards of Merit are given in recognition of meritorious contributions to lighting design.
