HGA Selected To Design New State of Iowa Office Building in Des Moines
Minneapolis, MN - HGA Architects and Engineers (HGA) has been selected to design the new Iowa State Office Building on the Capitol complex in Des Moines. At approximately 350,000-square feet, the building will be used by multiple state agencies and include an adjacent parking structure connected via a skywalk.
The Iowa Department of Administrative Services has asked that the 50- to 100-year building include sustainable-design strategies for possible LEED Silver Certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). In developing design schemes, HGA will research key sustainable options to plan a flexible, cost-effective facility that will reduce energy consumption and waste and adapt easily to future programming needs.
"The State of Iowa is committed to creating productive and healthy work environments for its public employees," says Rebecca J. Greco, vice president and principal with HGA in Minneapolis. "Our goal will be to design a building that meets Iowa's sustainable objectives and effectively stewards the natural resources."
As leading design firm with more than 80 LEED accredited professionals, HGA has teamed with Substance architecture of Des Moines, Iowa; The Weidt Group of Minnetonka, Minnesota; and Walker Parking Consultants of Minneapolis on the $77 million project. The teams will work closely with the Iowa State Architect's office and the Iowa Department of Administrative Services.
HGA has begun early design work. Approximate occupancy is slated for early 2011.
