HGA Selected to Design Regional Medical Campus for Owensboro Medical Health System in Kentucky
Milwaukee, WI - HGA Architects and Engineers (HGA) has been selected to design a replacement hospital and medical campus for Owensboro Medical Health System (OMHS) in Owensboro, Kentucky. The 145-acre greenfield site is only 2.4 miles from the existing location. The project includes master site planning, programming, and complete architectural and interior services.
HGA's in-house process engineers are working with OMHS to maximize workflows and operational processes for greater patient care, safety, and staff efficiency. Through interactive workshops with key hospital personnel, along with physicians and consumers who live in the Owensboro region, HGA is facilitating teams to identify more efficient workflows that will form the basis for the replacement facility's design.
"HGA is introducing lean design principles into the planning and development process that will enable Owensboro to achieve a lean business model," says Kurt Spiering, vice president and principal with HGA in Milwaukee.
OMHS has outgrown its current hospital and healthcare campus, which includes a series of additions and expansions since its founding in 1936. Facility studies concluded that a replacement facility would prove more cost-effective and patient-focused than renovating the existing hospital.
HGA began design work in early 2008. Groundbreaking is slated for 2009, with move-in scheduled for 2012.
