HGA Selected to Remodel Communication Arts Building for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside
Milwaukee, WI - HGA Architects and Engineers (HGA) has been selected to design a new addition and extensive remodeling to the Communication Arts Building and adjacent academic structures at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. The $34 million project will house the university's expanding music, theater and visual arts programs.
"This project is an exciting opportunity to help the university increase the prominence and visibility of its arts programs," says d'Andre Willis, associate vice president and principal with HGA, Milwaukee. "UW-Parkside is committed to providing quality educational opportunities as the demand for fine arts continues to increase on campus."
The commission includes approximately 108,000 square feet of remodeled space in three interconnected buildings to include the Communication Arts Building, Molinaro Hall School of Modern Industry, and Wyllie Hall, plus a 45,000-square-foot addition to the Communication Arts Building.
The realigned Communication Arts Building will provide space for the Theater Arts program, instructional labs, Music, 2-D arts programs, classrooms, and administrative offices. A renovated Molinaro Hall will include 3-D arts programs for sculpture, ceramics, and fibers/metal labs, while Wyllie Hall will house instructional technology support, distance-education classrooms, storefront offices, and equipment storage.
The new construction and renovation will reflect the existing architectural character of the modern campus for 5,000 students in bachelor's and master's programs. The university's core complex of four interconnected buildings, completed between 1968 and 1972, comprises well-designed modernist structures with exposed concrete, matching brick face, and clear bronze-tinted windows.
The project team includes d'Andre Willis as team principal and David Lang as lead project designer. Construction is expected to begin mid-2009, with occupancy slated for late 2010.
