Eden Prairie Community and Aquatics Center

Wellness and Recreation on Display

The Eden Prairie Community Center (EPCC) provides recreational and wellness programming to a suburban community of 64,000 residents. The existing building housed a single lap pool, constructed in 1986, that had become functionally obsolete. The EPCC Aquatics addition reconstructed the existing pool volume and added 56,000 square feet of new aquatics programming to accommodate recreational, instructional, and competition swimming.

The project’s conceptual strategy sought to maximize the indoor/outdoor connection inherent to its verdant setting. The visual and programmatic connections between swimming and fitness programs in the building and recreational activities in Round Lake Park communicate a civic commitment to  wellness. The new addition is clad in a red brick blend complimentary to the existing building. The introduction of transparency, through both clear and colored glass, and metal clad volumes creates a critical dialogue between Aquatics Addition Building Site the existing and new architecture.
